FRP has low density, good dielectric insulation, good heat insulation, water absorption, thermal expansion and so on.

1、Density

Fiberglass density between 1.5~2.0, only common carbon steel 1/4~1/5, lighter than the light metal aluminum about 1/3, and mechanical strength is very high, some aspects can even close to the level of ordinary carbon steel. For example, the tensile, bending and compressive strength of some epoxy glass steels are more than 400MPa. In terms of specific strength, FRP is not only much better than ordinary carbon steel, but also can reach or exceed the level of some special alloy steels.

2、Electrical Performance

FRP has excellent electrical insulation performance, can be used as insulating parts in instruments, motors and electrical appliances, under the action of high frequency still maintain good dielectric properties. In insulating material, replace paper and cotton cloth with glass fiber cloth, can raise the insulating grade of insulating material, below the circumstance with same resin, can raise a grade at least. FRP accounts for 1/3~1/2 of the amount of insulation material. In some large motors, such as 125,000 KW, several hundred kilograms of fiberglass insulation are used. In addition, FRP is not affected by electromagnetic and has good microwave penetration performance.

3、Thermal Performance

FRP has good thermal performance, its specific heat is 2~3 times that of metal, low thermal conductivity, only 1/100~1/1000 of metal materials.

In addition, the instantaneous high temperature resistance of some varieties of FRP is also very outstanding, such as phenolic type high silicon oxygen cloth FRP, in the case of extremely high temperature, the carbonization layer, can effectively protect rockets, missiles and spacecraft in the atmosphere need to withstand 5000~10000K high temperature and high-speed airflow role.
